Ladies we are kicking off our Christmas to Share campaign. We are taking your donations starting 2day 4 the local women & children shelter christmas gifts drive. Each person will receive a gift bag full of goodies but we need your help.. As a thank you for your generousity you will be given a 125X125 free ad on the donation page in our magazine. Must send at least 50 women items and 50 children items. Remember that the kids gifts must be both boy & girl items. Which can range from crayons & coloring books to bigger ticket items.

Habitat for Humanity (HFH) of Los Angeles and Hollywood holds 6th annual (and most anticipated) build event of 2010, “Power Women Power Tools” (PWPT)
Together, over 300 of the most prominent women in Los Angeles & Hollywood joined forces on June 12th in Lynwood, California to install drywall, siding, and roofing.   Power Women participating had various levels of experience with construction but with leadership and guidance of amazing team leads they worked relentlessly on 10 of the first LEED certified town homes in the city! While learning new skills, these women raised money, built relationships, and empowered themselves and others while building new homes for those in need.
Power Women generously volunteered their time and physical strength to assure other women in their community had the opportunity to provide a healthy living environment for themselves and their families.  Danielle Zapotoczny, of the United Nations Creative Community Outreach Initiative, describes the day as one that “redefines what a power woman is. PWPT brings together very successful women and puts a new spin on what it means to be powerful!”
HFH home recipients work hand in hand with the Power Women to build their new homes.  Each HFH home recipient is responsible for putting in 500 hours of sweat equity toward their new home.  In addition to an application process, an in home evaluation to assess their current living situation and a $1000 down payment are required, as well as the ability to qualify for a low interest loan.  Many recipients are currently renting subpar homes where mold and safety concerns are a reality.    HFH home recipient Maria Ramirez has 2 children and is expecting her 3rd in August.  She and her family are thrilled to have qualified for such an opportunity.  Ramirez is grateful to HFH and PWPT “for helping me because I wouldn’t have been able to do it on my own.” She is most excited “to have room for my children to play and to have my own washer and dryer!” Her advice to others who may be considering applying for a HFH home is: “Don’t think there’s not a chance.  If you don’t take a chance you will never know!”
Actress Patricia Richards shared her enthusiasm for being involved and commends HFH for having the families contribute to the construction.  They are “more empowered when they earn it by working for it.” Actress Paully Perette has been involved with HFH since 1988 and declares PWPT as her “absolute favorite event.” Suzanne Horton, Chief Executive Officer of Be Jane, shared similar sentiments as Perrette when she stated: “Working together women can change the world!”(Pictured Opposite Page)
